The study conducted by child rights body CRY in May-June covered 5,987 children in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The information was collected by CRY's community organisers through telephonic interviews.

An analysis of census data by CRY (Child Rights and You) has revealed that child labour has been decreasing at a mere 2.2 percent per year over the last decade, contrary to popular perception of its substantial reduction.
In absolute amount, child budget in FY14 was Rs 72,496 crore, which declined to Rs 69,888 crore in FY15 and for FY16 it stands at low Rs 57,919 crore, a steep decline of 17.12 per cent y-o-y," CRY said.
