DGCA will closely monitor post-merger operations to ensure ongoing compliance with all regulatory conditions, safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring the continued safety of air operations in India.
AIX Connect, which was earlier known as AirAsia India, will cease to exist after flying for 11 years. The aircraft registered under its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) will be transferred to the AOC of Air India Express under the legal merger that is to come into effect in the first week of October, another official said.
While the airline sees continued opportunities for expansion, the official said it is also aware about the unreliability of the legacy aircraft
Akasa Air and IndiGo were second and third, followed by Vistara. On-time performance of airlines rose in February after heavy fog forced flight delays throughout December and January. Punctuality rose by 2-5 percent from January.
An official statement on February 18 said that BCAS has asked the airlines to implement the required measures to ensure timely delivery of baggage by February 26
The fleet merger by the airlines is part of the Tata Group's plan of creating two distinct airlines through mergers: a low-cost carrier formed by merging AirAsia India and Air India Express, and a full-service carrier created by combining Air India and Vistara.
The Air India group has entered into an internal codeshare with AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India), which will involve placing the AI code on over 100 flights across 21 routes operated by AirAsia India.
Codesharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless travel to destinations.
Air India Express' plans are part of Air India’s ongoing five-year 5-year transformation project called Vihaan.AI.
The new structure will streamline grades and career pathways, enabling higher transparency and career progression opportunities for all employees, both airlines said in a release.
With the regulatory nod, Air India Express and AirAsia India are now permitted to jointly promote, sell, and operate their services as 'Air India Express'
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has asked for more details with respect to the proposed merger, which was announced in November last year, and approval from the regulator was sought in April this year.
