Late Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar is survived by his wife Sunetra Pawar and their two sons, Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar, both of whom have remained in public attention at different points but followed largely divergent paths.
Parth Pawar
Ajit Pawar’s elder son, Parth Pawar, briefly stepped into electoral politics in 2019, when he contested the Lok Sabha election from the Maval constituency. The move drew significant attention, given the Pawar family’s long political legacy in Maharashtra. However, Parth lost the election by a wide margin, and the defeat marked the end of his short stint in frontline politics.
Since then, Parth Pawar has largely stayed away from active political roles and has not held any elected office or party position. He has made limited public appearances and has not indicated plans to re-enter electoral politics. His name has surfaced occasionally in connection with business entities linked to land transactions that came under official scrutiny, though he has not been named as an accused in any major criminal case. In recent years, Parth has maintained a low political profile.
Jay Pawar
Ajit Pawar’s younger son, Jay Pawar, has consistently stayed out of electoral politics and maintained a relatively low public profile. He is understood to be involved in business interests and divides his time between Mumbai and Baramati. Unlike his elder brother, Jay has not contested elections or formally entered political life.
Jay Pawar has been seen supporting family members during election campaigns and public events, but has avoided sustained political engagement. There has been occasional speculation about his possible political future, particularly given the Pawar family’s influence in Baramati, but no formal announcements or moves have been made in that direction.
Pawar family legacy
Parth and Jay Pawar belong to one of Maharashtra’s most prominent political families.
Ajit Pawar, a multiple-term MLA from Baramati, was among the most influential leaders in state politics and played a key role in government formation and administration over the years.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that no one on board survived the crash. The aircraft, a Learjet with registration VT-SSK, was carrying Ajit Pawar, two other personnel and two crew members. It had taken off from Mumbai at around 8.10 am, with Air Traffic Control alerted to the crash at 9.12 am, officials said.
