West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday, staged a protest inside the Chandrakona police station, demanding the registration of an FIR after he alleged that his convoy was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Paschim Medinipur district.
Adhikari claimed the incident occurred around 8.20 pm on Saturday when he was returning from Purulia. According to him, a group of TMC supporters targeted his convoy on Chandrakona Road, allegedly using sticks and bamboo.

“We are here for justice. I have given the names of those involved. An FIR must be registered and those responsible should be arrested,” Adhikari told ANI while sitting on a dharna inside the police station.
The BJP leader accused the ruling party of attempting to intimidate the opposition ahead of upcoming elections. “The elections aren’t far. They know they are losing, and that is why they want to eliminate the BJP from West Bengal,” he said.
Taking to microblogging site X, Adhikari alleged that the attack took place in the presence of police personnel who failed to intervene.

“I was viciously attacked by TMC goons… The very guardians of law stood by like mute spectators,” he wrote, calling the incident “an assault on every voice of opposition in West Bengal.”
He added that he would not leave the police station until action was taken. “I am now sitting on a dharna inside the Chandrakona Police Station, demanding immediate action and arrests. The people of Bengal deserve better,” Adhikari said.
Visuals from the scene showed heightened security arrangements outside the police station, with BJP workers gathering and raising slogans against the Mamata Banerjee-led government.
Reacting to the incident, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya alleged a collapse of law and order in the state. “What is happening in West Bengal tantamounts to a total breakdown of constitutional machinery. The custodians of the Constitution should intervene immediately,” he told ANI.
The TMC has, however, dismissed the allegations, with local leaders suggesting the incident reflected “public anger” rather than a planned attack. TMC leaders accused the BJP of trying to manufacture a political narrative ahead of elections.
