US semiconductor major KLA announces Rs 3,600 crore investment in Tamil Nadu, 4,000 jobs

American semiconductor equipment major KLA Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to invest $400 million (around Rs 3,600 crore) to set up a global R&D and Innovation Campus in Chennai, State Industries Minister T. R. B. Rajaa announced on Wednesday.

Sharing the development in a post on X, Rajaa said, “KLA which is one of the BIG 3 in Semiconductor manufacturing design and R&D, has today signed an MoU with @Guidance_TN to invest $400 million (about Rs. 3,600 crore), to establish its global R&D and Innovation Campus in Chennai!”

He added that the planned campus is expected to generate up to 4,000 high-skilled jobs. “This planned campus will create up to 4,000 high skilled jobs.”

Highlighting the state government’s push to build a semiconductor ecosystem, Rajaa said: “Under the leadership of Honourable @CMOTamilNadu Thiru. @MKStalin avargal, we are building a long lasting semiconductor ecosystem anchored in talent, research and advanced engineering.”

The proposed 12-acre campus is envisioned as KLA’s global R&D and innovation hub, with a potential built-up capacity of up to 1.5 million square feet over time. It will support advanced research in high-performance computing, process control engineering software and AI-driven semiconductor innovation.
