Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi – an accused in the 2023 Nuh communal riots – was allegedly duped of Rs 30,000 by a man on the pretext of arranging his marriage, PTI reported citing police.
An FIR has been registered against the accused and his accomplices based on a complaint by Bajrangi. According to the complaint, Bajrangi told the accused Bunty, who is related to his neighbour, that he was looking to get married and requested him to inform him if he came across a prospective bride.
According to the complaint, Bunty introduced Bajrangi to a woman named Rani and invited him to Aligarh three times to meet potential brides, none of whom he liked.
Bunty later shared a photograph of another young woman, whom Bajrangi approved. On September 5, 2025, Bunty and Rani brought the woman and her family to Bajrangi’s residence, where the marriage was fixed for February 7.
On February 6, Bajrangi allegedly transferred Rs 30,000 to the accused for the bride’s wedding attire. But when he reached Aligarh with his baraat, he found the accused untraceable, with their mobile phones switched off.
"When I called the bride, she stated that she knew nothing about the wedding and I had to return empty-handed," Bajrangi said in his complaint, according to the PTI report.
According to a senior police officer, Bajrangi had agreed to pay Rs 1.20 lakh to the accused persons for making the wedding arrangements. Following his complaint, police registered an FIR against Bunty, Rani and others at Saran police station under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have initiated a probe.
A neighbour of Bajrangi said preparations were underway at his house to welcome the new bride, but in the end, everything fell apart.
