Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress over illegal immigration, accusing the party of protecting “infiltrators” who he said are taking away jobs and land belonging to tribal communities.
PM Modi, speaking in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, said that political parties, including the Congress, TMC and Left, had remained in power for years but focused only on “filling their own coffers” instead of working for the welfare of people.

PM Modi said the TMC leaders spoke on several issues, but should also reflect on their own failures, alleging that people in West Bengal are suffering under their government and accusing them of trying to protect infiltrators by going to court, driven only by the desire to stay in power.
"A cruel government is making new records in all the parameters of downfall. But they are lecturing us here. The future of the people there is plunging into darkness, but they (State Govt) do not care. They have no aspirations besides being in power. They are lecturing here. Prosperous nations of the world are driving out illegal residents from their countries. But in our country, pressure is being put on the courts. How can the youth of our nation forgive such people who are using everything possible to advocate for the infiltrators?" he asked.
