Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised the efforts of those involved in making the Jan Dhan Yojana a success.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, praising the efforts of those who contributed to its success. He highlighted the scheme’s crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion across India, particularly benefiting women, youth, and marginalized communities.

"Today, we mark a momentous occasion – #10YearsOfJanDhan. Congratulations to all the beneficiaries and compliments to all those who worked to make this scheme a success," the Prime Minister stated.

In his LinkedIn post, PM Modi highlighted the stark contrast between the pre-2014 era, when nearly half of Indian households lacked access to banking services, and the present day, where over 53 crore people now have bank accounts. Modi also emphasized that this shift has not only secured financial assets but also empowered millions, particularly women and marginalized communities, by integrating them into the formal financial system. He noted that the scheme's success is evident in the over Rs 2.3 lakh crore in deposits and the substantial role it has played in rural and semi-urban areas.

The scheme has been pivotal in enabling other government initiatives like MUDRA Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and the Atal Pension Yojana to reach their full potential. Furthermore, it laid the foundation for the JAM Trinity—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile—which has revolutionized digital payments in India by eliminating middlemen and facilitating direct benefit transfers, he added.

He highlighted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the financial inclusion brought about by Jan Dhan ensured that subsidies reached those in need. Modi concluded by celebrating the beneficiaries and the dedicated the success to banking staff who turned financial inclusion from a dream into reality, setting the stage for further progress toward a developed India.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also commended the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana on its 10th anniversary, stating, "Today, we mark a momentous occasion—#10YearsOfJanDhan. Congratulations to all the beneficiaries and compliments to all those who worked to make this scheme a success." Her remarks underscore the scheme's widespread impact and the collective effort behind its achievements.

Launched in 2014, the Jan Dhan Yojana is a national mission aimed at achieving comprehensive financial inclusion. The scheme ensures universal access to banking services, including basic banking accounts, financial literacy, credit, insurance, and pension facilities for every household. Over the past decade, it has significantly contributed to uplifting millions by providing them with financial dignity and stability.
