Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the situation in West Asia is a matter of "deep worry".
PM Modi held bilateral talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at Hyderabad House in the national capital, focusing on strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
After the talks, the PM said India stands for peace and stability. "India's position on the many ongoing tensions in the world is clear. We have always called for maintaining peace and stability, and when two democracies stand together, the voice for peace becomes even stronger. The current situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern for us. India supports the resolution of all disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. We will continue to work closely with all countries to ensure the safety of all Indian citizens in the region," he said.
The Prime Minister added that India is in contact with several countries to ensure the safety and security of Indian citizens affected by the situation.
His remarks came as developments in West Asia remain uncertain, with India closely monitoring the situation while calling for restraint and peaceful engagement between all sides involved.
Earlier, PM Modi spoke with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu amid the current regional situation in West Asia as tensions continue to rise across the region following recent military developments.
The conflict between Iran and the US started on Saturday morning. Following this, Iran has, since then, launched multiple attacks on several Middle Eastern areas, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and more, leaving thousands of people stranded.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Monday said the fighting could last up to four weeks. The United States has designated its campaign Operation Epic Fury. In remarks to The Daily Mail, Trump stated that the operation is proceeding as planned and claimed that American strikes have likely eliminated 48 senior Iranian leaders.
