PM inaugurates 17 projects worth around Rs 1,200 crore from Manipur's Imphal

Among the key projects inaugurated were the new Manipur Police headquarters at Mantripukhri, built at a cost of Rs 101 crore, and the state civil secretariat in the same area, constructed at an estimated Rs 538 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched 17 projects worth about Rs 1,200 crore during a programme held at the Kangla Fort complex in Imphal. The visit marked his first trip to Manipur since ethnic violence erupted between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May 2023.

Among the key projects inaugurated were the new Manipur Police headquarters at Mantripukhri, built at a cost of Rs 101 crore, and the state civil secretariat in the same area, constructed at an estimated Rs 538 crore.

They also included the Civil Secretariat and IT SEZ Building at Mantripukhri, Manipur Bhawans at Delhi and Kolkata; and Ima Markets, unique all women’s market, in 4 districts.

Inaugurating the projects, PM Modi said, “Among the projects launched today, two are very important, the Manipur Urban Road Project worth over Rs 3,600 crore and the Manipur Info-Tech Development Project worth over Rs 500 crore."

PM modi said these projects will strengthen road infrastructure in Imphal and infuse new energy into Manipur’s bright future.

Before Imphal, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore in Churachandpur, Manipur, and met displaced residents, emphasising that "peace is essential for development."

These projects include Manipur Urban Roads, drainage and asset management improvement project worth more than Rs 3,600 crore; 5 National Highway projects worth overRs 2,500 crore; Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project, Working Women Hostels at 9 locations, among others.

In Churachandpur, PM Modi praised Manipur as a "land of courage and bravery" and announced efforts to expand railway connectivity in the state.
