The Indian Air Force tweeted recalling the historic moment, highlighting how the armed forces’ swift and decisive action during the 13-day war reshaped history and geography, ushering in a new era of freedom and justice.

In a clip titled '1971 War...Chronicle of Courage', the Indian Air Force showcased its combat jets unleashed fury - from battle of Longewala to 'race to Dacca'. The rare footage showed critical milestone in India's absolute aerial dominance at a time when the country didn't have much advanced weapon system.
"These were not just days of war, but moments of courage, sacrifice and resolve," the poignant message in the end read.
On Vijay Diwas, the nation pays tribute to the bravery, sacrifice and valour of the soldiers who secured this landmark victory and continue to inspire generations of Indians.
On 16 December 1971, Lt Gen A A K Niazi handed over his epaulets and revolver to Indian forces, marking the unconditional surrender of Pakistani troops in Dhaka. The city erupted in celebration as power was formally transferred to the newly formed Government of Bangladesh.
Last week, the Indian Air Force marked Vijay Diwas 2025 with a grand aerial display at Air Force Station Mohanbari in Dibrugarh. The event, organised by the Headquarters Eastern Air Command, commemorated India's historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak war that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh. It witnessed a large turnout of military and civil dignitaries, air veterans and hundreds of schoolchildren.
Addressing the media at the airbase, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said India remains fully prepared to deal with any two-front conflict. Emphasising the readiness of the armed forces, he stated that the Indian Air Force is equipped to respond decisively to any provocation, warning that any misadventure by adversaries would be met with a strong and forceful response.
