A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable has been suspended for allegedly assaulting 10-year-old relative who was staying with his family at their quarters inside a CRPF camp in Greater Noida.
The child reportedly remains on ventilator support, with medical reports indicating severe injuries -- including critically low haemoglobin levels (1.9), fractured ribs and torn nails.
A case has been registered against the CRPF constable and his wife. The couple have been accused of illegally keeping the minor as domestic labour and inflicting prolonged physical abuse on her.
The 10-year-old girl was rushed to Sarvodaya Hospital on January 15. The hospital, upon finding her serious injuries and life threatening condition, prepared a medico-legal case and formally informed the local police, the medical report accessed by CNN-News18 showed.
She was later admitted to Max Hospital in Sector-128, where she is currently on life support.
Officials aware of the developments told CNN-News18 that the minor was allegedly kept as illegal domestic help and subjected to repeated assault and starvation over an extended period. A CRPF official said her medical condition reflected extreme neglect and violence.
Despite two complaints being filed by CRPF officials, the case was registered only on January 18, an official told CNN-News18. The medical report said the child was unconscious and drowsy when she was taken to the emergency department.
An FIR has been lodged at the Ecotech III police station in Gautam Budh Nagar under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The move has drawn concern, with critics questioning why harsher legal provisions were not applied despite the grave nature of the allegations.
The complaint highlights that the allegations could attract provisions under multiple child protection and anti-trafficking laws, including, Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, other relevant sections related to trafficking and exploitation of minors. However, as of now, the FIR has been registered only under section 110 of BNS.
