A day after issuing a warning for student visa holders, the US Embassy in India on Thursday issued another warning - this time for people seeking the B1/B2 visitor visas for the United States.
In its warning, the Embassy said that people who want to visit the US should learn what is allowed in the United States. "During your visa interview, if the consular officer believes you do not intend to follow the rules for a visitor visa, he or she may deny your application,” the embassy said in the video.
The Embassy further said that the responsibility to use the visitors visa "correctly" lies with the person getting the B1/B2 visa.
"Learn what you are and are not allowed to do when visiting the United States on a B1/B2 visitor visa. If you misuse your visa or stay longer than allowed, you could be permanently banned from future travel,” the Embassy said, adding that the applicants can "learn more at travel.state.gov/visas”.

On Wednesday, the US Embassy in India had issued a similar warning for student visa holders, saying that any violation could cause their visa to be revoked and them to be deported.
“Breaking US laws can have serious consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or violate any laws, your visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future US visas,” the US Embassy said in a post on X.
It further said that the US visa is a privilege, not a right.
This came one week after the embassy had issued a warning for those wanting H-1B and H-4 working visas and said that any violations of US immigration laws could invite serious criminal penalties.
This is part of the wider crackdown of the Donald Trump-led government over illegal immigration in the United States and the tightening of the H-1B and student visa processes.
