Jharkhand Election 2024 Latest Updates: Voting for the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly Election will be held tomorrow. Polling for 43 Assembly constituencies will begin at 7:00 am on Wednesday i.e November 13, 2024. Among the prominent leaders who are contesting the election in the first phase include former Chief Minister Champai Soren, ex-CM Madhu Koda’s wife Geeta Koda, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, state health minister Banna Gupta and Poornima Das, daughter-in-law of former CM Raghubar Das.
Jharkhand Election 2024: How Many Candidates Are Contesting In Phase 1
In the first phase of Jharkhand election, fate of 683 candidates will be decided on Wednesday. Maximum number of Assembly seats are in East Singhbhum, which will see polling for six constituencies. On the other hand, Palamu, Ranchi and West Singhbhum have five Assembly constituencies. Least number of seats are in Kodarma and Ramgarh, which have one seat each.
In Jamshedpur East, Congress leader Ajay Rai is facing ex-CM Raghubar Das' daughter-in-law Poornima Das, who is fighting on BJP ticket.
On the other hand, in Jagannathpur, Geeta Koda, wife of former CM Madhu Koda is contesting the polls against Congress candidate Sona Ram Rinku. In Ranchi, CP Singh, who has been winning the state polls since 1996, will face Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Mahua Maji.
Jharkhand Election 2024: Who Are The Prominent Faces In Phase 1
In the first phase, Ranchi, Jamshedpur West, Jamshedpur East and Jagannathpur will witness major contests. While former Chief Minister Champai Soren is contesting from Seraikela Kharsawan. Earlier in August this year, Soren had joined the BJP. In Jamshedpur West, Congress leader Banna Gupta is in direct fight with JD(U)’s Saryu Roy. In 2019, Roy had defeated then Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das.
Jharkhand Election 2024: Know the key contests
The main poll battle is between Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led Grand Alliance and the National Democratic Alliance led by BJP. Out of 43 seats in the first phase election, JMM is fighting on 23 seats, Congress is contesting on 17 Assembly constituencies. Intestinally, Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal has fielded candidates in five seats. Out of these, two are against leaders from the Grand Alliance itself.
