Pichai, who is in India to deliver the keynote address at the summit on February 20, shared a message upon his arrival. "Nice to be back in India for the AI Impact Summit — a very warm welcome as always and the papers looked great too," he posted on X.
The summit, described as the first global AI gathering of this scale to be hosted in the Global South, has drawn participation from over 110 countries, along with international organisations, ministers and global technology leaders. It is focused on advancing discussions around AI governance, safety and inclusive growth.
In a special interview with ANI on Tuesday, PM Modi outlined India’s broader vision for artificial intelligence under the theme “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhaye”.
“Today, AI stands at a civilisational inflexion point. It can expand human capability in unprecedented ways, but it can also test existing social foundations if left unguided,” the Prime Minister said. “The end goal of technology should be ‘Welfare for All, Happiness of All’. Technology exists to serve humanity, not replace it.”
On AI’s economic impact, he said, “AI isn’t replacing the IT sector. It is transforming it,” adding that projections show India’s IT industry could reach $400 billion by 2030.
Addressing concerns over job losses, Modi remarked, “Preparation is the best antidote to fear,” and added, “History teaches us that whenever innovation happens, new opportunities emerge. The same will be true in the age of AI.”
The Prime Minister also stressed the need for global cooperation, stating, “We need a global compact on AI built upon human oversight, safety-by-design and transparency.”
