The counting of votes for the recently held Haryana assembly elections will be held on October 8.
The counting will reportedly begin at 8 am. Election officials along with agents representing various political parties will arrive at counting centres by 5 am.
The counting for the 90 assembly states will begin with postal ballots that are reserved for specific groups, including those with disabilities, security personnel, and certain government employees involved in essential services. Following this, the votes cast using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be tallied.
By midday, early trends will start emerging, but a clearer picture of the outcomes will likely be available by late afternoon.
According to exit polls released on Saturday, Congress is expected to win 50-55 seats while 20-25 seats may be bagged by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Haryana Assembly has 90 seats, and the majority mark is 46. However, CM Nayab Singh Saini said the BJP will form a government in the state.
“We will not need any kind of alliance; I have said from the very beginning that the BJP will form the government alone. We have all the arrangements... I am confident that BJP will alone form the government but if we need that (alliance) we will give it a thought, we have all the arrangements,” said Saini.
The main parties contesting the elections were the BJP, Congress, INLD-BSP alliance, JJP-Azad Samaj Party alliance, and the Aam Aadmi Party. The final voter turnout was recorded at 61.5%.
In the 2019 Haryana Assembly election, the state delivered a hung assembly. The BJP secured 40 seats, Congress won 31, and Dushyant Chautala’s JJP took 10 seats, becoming the kingmaker
