Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son, Prateek Yadav, has announced his decision to divorce his wife, BJP leader Aparna Yadav, calling her 'a family destroyer.' He made the statement through a post on his official Instagram account, where he also called her a selfish woman.
The post quickly sparked widespread discussion on social media, with Prateek Yadav sharing a strongly worded message in which he accused Aparna Yadav of being selfish and blamed her for disrupting his family life.
He also spoke about his mental health, claiming that she was indifferent to his condition and driven by a desire for fame and influence.
"I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential. Right now, i am very bad mental health condition, and she doesn't bother. Because it's only herself she bothers about. I have never seen such a bad soul, and I was unfortunate to get married to her," the post said, according to Prateek Yadav’s Instagram account.
When did Prateek and Aparna marry?
Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav got engaged in 2011 and were married a year later in 2012, in what was seen as one of Uttar Pradesh’s most high-profile weddings. The ceremony was attended by several prominent personalities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Anil Ambani.
According to media reports, the couple’s relationship began in 2001 after Prateek expressed his feelings for Aparna when he got her email ID at a birthday party. They were in a relationship for nearly a decade before tying the knot and had known each other since their school days.
Who is Aparna Yadav?
Aparna Yadav is the younger daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. Ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, she quit the Samajwadi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
She had earlier contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from the Lucknow Cantt seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket but lost to BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi. Although she was seeking a Samajwadi Party ticket again in 2022, she switched to the BJP before the polls. After a prolonged wait, Aparna Yadav was appointed Vice Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission in September 2024, according to several media reports.
