Encounter erupts in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora; cordon and search ops underway

An encounter broke out Tuesday morning between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, confirmed officials. The gunfight began in the Nagmarg area of North Kashmir during a joint cordon and search operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, following intelligence reports of terrorist activity in the region.

According to officials, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. Security forces observed suspicious activity, and when they challenged the terrorists, the militants opened fire. The forces responded quickly, and the following gunbattle led to the ongoing encounter.

The Indian Army's Srinagar 15 Corps took to microblogging site X, informing about the encounter,"On 12 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in general area Nagmarg of Bandipora. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress".
