An encounter broke out Tuesday morning between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, confirmed officials. The gunfight began in the Nagmarg area of North Kashmir during a joint cordon and search operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, following intelligence reports of terrorist activity in the region.
According to officials, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. Security forces observed suspicious activity, and when they challenged the terrorists, the militants opened fire. The forces responded quickly, and the following gunbattle led to the ongoing encounter.
The operation is still in progress, with two to three terrorists believed to be trapped in the area.
The Srinagar 15 Corps shared updates on the operation via social media, stating, "Operation is in progress," and detailing the engagement between the forces and the militants.
