In a large-scale crackdown aimed at strengthening law and order, Delhi Police’s South-East District carried out Operation Aaghat 3.0 on Friday, leading to the arrest of hundreds of offenders across multiple categories.
According to police officials, 285 people were taken into custody in cases registered under the Excise Act, NDPS Act and Gambling Act. Alongside these arrests, the district police also detained a large number of individuals as part of preventive action.
DCP South East Hemant Tiwari, while sharing details, said, "285 accused have been arrested under the Excise Act, NDPS Act and Gambling Act. A total of 504 persons were apprehended under preventive action, while 116 Bad Characters were also apprehended."
The operation resulted in substantial recoveries. Law enforcement teams seized illegal firearms, ammunition and sharp weapons during coordinated searches across the district.
DCP Tiwari said, "Ten property offenders and five auto-lifters were arrested during the operation. Recoveries include 21 CMP, 20 live cartridges and 27 knives."
Police also confiscated a significant quantity of contraband, including 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor and 6.01 kilograms of ganja.
Gambling-related action formed another key component of the drive, with cash and electronic devices recovered from suspects. A total of Rs 2,30,990 was seized, along with 310 mobile phones. The police also recovered or seized 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler during the course of the operation. In total, officials said that more than 1,300 individuals were rounded up under various preventive provisions.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident earlier this week, a brief encounter was reported in the Narela area of the national capital. Two wanted men, identified as Afzal alias Imran and Chandan alias Kaku, were injured and apprehended after an exchange of fire with police. Officials said the duo, listed as bad characters of Narela police station, opened fire when police set up a special picket near NIT, Narela. Police retaliated by firing at their legs, following which both were taken to RHC Hospital and later referred to BSA Hospital.
Two pistols, mobile phones, a motorcycle and five empty cartridges were recovered from the spot. Police said cases under relevant sections, including attempt to murder and the Arms Act, are being registered, and further investigation is underway.
