Paswan said the murder of 16-year-old Himanshu Paswan and 20-year-old Anu Kumar in Nalanda’s Bihar Sharif is “extremely unfortunate and condemnable"

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan brought up the issue of crumbling law and order in poll-bound Bihar on Monday over the double-murder in Nalanda. He slammed the Nitish Kumar government, also his ally in the National Democratic Alliance, over the recent spate of murders in the state, especially in the Chief Minister’s home district Nalanda.

Paswan said the murder of 16-year-old Himanshu Paswan and 20-year-old Anu Kumar in Nalanda’s Bihar Sharif is “extremely unfortunate and condemnable".

He said this heinous event not only shakes humanity but also shows that law and order in Bihar have completely collapsed.

“Yesterday, in Biharsharif, Nalanda, criminals brutally murdered 16-year-old Himanshu Paswan and 20-year-old Anu Kumar by shooting them. This incident is extremely unfortunate and condemnable. This heinous event not only shakes humanity but also shows that law and order in Bihar have completely collapsed,” he wrote in a post on X on Monday.

Paswan said crime in the state is at its peak, and the fact that such an incident was carried out by criminals in the home district of the honorable Chief Minister clearly indicates that the morale of criminals is at its highest.

“I have spoken with the local administration over the phone and have directed them to identify the criminals and take strict action,” he said.

On Sunday, he voiced "concern" over incidents like the murder of top industrialist Gopal Khemka a couple of days ago. He said it raised doubts over the ability of the Nitish Kumar government "which we support and which has so far enjoyed a reputation for good governance".

“The way crime has increased in Bihar and the manner in which law and order have collapsed is a matter of concern. I am not saying this only because of the murder of a businessman, although that too is a matter of concern because such an incident occurred in a place that is a posh area of Patna. Just 100 meters away from where the police station is and where officials' residences are located,” he told ANI.

“Paswan said if such an incident is happening in Patna, just imagine what must be happening in villages and rural areas? If even a single murder occurs in Bihar, it should be a matter of concern for the government and administration,” he said.

Khemka who was shot dead near the main gate of his residence in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area.

Ahead of Bihar Assembly elections this year, Paswan has been attacking the CM after announcing that his party will contest all 243 seats in Bihar.

Saying that there was a "conspiracy" to thwart his foray into Bihar politics, the 42-year-old said on Sunday that he would, nonetheless, contest the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

Paswan, who is a junior NDA partner in the state, made the statement at a rally in Saran district.

"The upcoming elections are crucial. After winning these, we shall strive to create an atmosphere in which people can step out of their homes at any time without fear and security concerns," he said.
