Three men have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Kolkata’s Dum Dum area. Police said the Class 7 student had gone for her tuition classes on Saturday evening when the assault took place.
The accused have been identified as Sanju Saha, Vicky Paswan, and Rajesh Paswan. Police sources said the incident unfolded when the girl met one of the accused, whom she reportedly knew, at a park. After some time, two other men joined them.
According to the complaint, the three accused forcibly took the girl to a house in Motilal Colony in an e-rickshaw. “She was tortured and gang-raped at the house,” the complainant told the police, according to a report by NDTV
After the assault, the girl managed to escape and reached home later that night in a disturbed state. After the incident, she informed her parents about what had happened, following which they filed a complaint at the Dum Dum Police Station.
Based on the complaint, police arrested all three accused and charged them under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including provisions for gang rape and illegal confinement.
Following their arrest, Saha has been remanded to five-day police custody, while Vicky and Rajesh Paswan have been sent to one-day judicial custody.
On Sunday morning, local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers gathered outside the Dum Dum Police Station, demanding strict action against those responsible for the crime.
