Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India sees a strong future in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He was addressing a gathering at India AI Impact Summit comprising world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish President Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, along with senior tech executives such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google DeepMind CEO Dennis Hassabis, and Reliance Industries Limited, chairman and managing director, Mukesh Ambani.
“India sees a strong future in AI. We have talent, energy capacity, and policy clarity. I am pleased to inform you all that at this summit, three Indian companies have launched their AI models and apps. These models showcase the talent of our youth...I invite you all to design and develop in India, deliver to the world, humanity,” he said.
The PM called on innovators to design and develop in India and deliver solutions to the world and humanity. He also said India is a natural hub for affordable and scalable solutions. "Some people fear AI, some see the future in it. India sees future in AI," he said.
PM Modi said AI must serve as a “multiplier” of human potential rather than become a monopoly controlled by a few. “This is India’s human vision for the AI-led 21st century world,” he said.
Highlighting India’s rapid technological growth, the PM said the country both develops and adopts new technologies at an unprecedented pace.
Describing the AI Impact Summit as the largest and most historic gathering on artificial intelligence, he added that the strong participation of young innovators and students instilled fresh confidence about India’s digital future.
“The AI model that succeeds in India can be deployed globally. India has diversity, demography, democracy,” he said.
He also unveiled India’s MANAV Vision for AI, which he said will become a crucial link towards the welfare of humanity. The Vision encompasses moral and ethical systems, accountable governance and national sovereignty. He also hailed the solutions proposed at the Summit as an “example of the strength of Made in India’s initiative as well as the country’s innovative capabilities".
