Billionaire Bill Gates will attend the AI Impact Summit and deliver his keynote address as scheduled, his spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday, ending speculation about his participation in the high-profile event.
The clarification followed media reports that suggested Gates might skip the ongoing summit in Delhi after his name was reportedly missing from the event’s “Global Visionaries” list.
Government sources had earlier told News18 that Gates was not part of the summit due to “unavoidable reasons” amid discussions surrounding the Epstein files.
In a post on X, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation praised India’s growing influence in artificial intelligence, calling the country a global AI leader powered by one of the world’s largest talent pools and rapid cross-sector adoption.
The foundation highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AI has become central to India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision, focused on inclusive growth and responsible innovation.
It also pointed to India’s public-private model that brings together government, startups, academia and industry as a template for building AI at a population scale.
The update on Gates’ attendance comes days after Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia, said he would not travel to India for the summit, despite being one of its most anticipated speakers.
The development also coincides with Gates’ ongoing visit to India. He recently travelled to Andhra Pradesh and visited Amaravati, where he praised the state’s use of artificial intelligence and technology in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture and education.
The AI Impact Summit 2026, being held at Bharat Mandapam, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi and brings together policymakers, technology firms, innovators and academic leaders.
The event aims to convert global AI conversations into actionable development outcomes under the IndiaAI Mission and the Digital India initiative.
