Bengaluru’s ORR Metro to be ready by Dec 2026, Hebbal-airport stretch by June 2027: DK Shivakumar

Karnataka deputy chief minister and Bengaluru development minister said the city’s Metro network will expand to 137.11 km by end-2026.

Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) Metro corridor- Phase 2A of Blue Line connecting Central Silk Board to KR Pura- will be ready by December 2026, Karnataka deputy chief minister and Bengaluru development minister DK Shivakumar posted on X on December 24.

Shivakumar said 19.75-km elevated stretch along ORR is a key component of Namma Metro’s expansion plans aimed at easing congestion in the city’s busiest tech corridor.

Providing an update on the overall network expansion, Shivakumar said Bengaluru Metro’s current operational network of 96.1 km will increase to 137.11 km by the end of 2026 and further to 175.55 km by the end of 2027.

Pink Line next to open

According to the minister, the next Metro corridor slated for opening is Reach-6 of Pink Line (elevated), connecting Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere over a length of 7.5 km, which is expected to be operational by May 2026.

This will be followed by the underground stretch of Pink Line, connecting Dairy Circle to Nagawara over 13.76 km, scheduled for completion by December 2026.

Airport line to open in phases

As reported earlier by Moneycontrol, airport section of Blue Line (Phase 2B) will be opened in two phases. The 27-km stretch between Hebbal and Kempegowda International Airport is targeted for opening by June 2027, while 11-km Hebbal-KR Pura section is expected to be ready by December 2027.

Once completed, 58-km Blue Line will connect Central Silk Board to KR Pura (Phase 2A) and KR Pura to Kempegowda International Airport (Phase 2B), cutting through some of Bengaluru’s most congested traffic corridors along the ORR and providing a direct Metro link to India’s third-busiest airport. The Blue Line is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 15,131 crore.

Work on the Blue Line began in September 2021 with an original deadline of December 2024, but the project has missed multiple deadlines.
