Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates Kempegowda International Airport, has quietly rolled out a Rs 275 pick-up charge for corporate taxis at the airport.

In a statement issued on December 26, BIAL had said it would impose a pick-up fee of Rs 275 on corporate taxis (yellow-board vehicles) to pick up passengers from a dedicated fifth lane at the Terminal 1 departures drop-off area.

"This is being called a premium pick-up zone. The first 10 minutes will be charged at Rs 275, with Rs 150 levied for every additional five minutes," a BIAL official said.

While BIAL later withdrew the statement, the airport operator quietly rolled out the fee from December 28 despite the backlash over the new pick-up rules.

The designated pick-up point is the fifth lane at Terminal 1 departures, located adjacent to Mitti Café and Shri Sagar.

BIAL has also extended the free parking time at Terminal 1 arrivals from December 26. As part of the revised measures, BIAL said it has increased the free parking duration at Terminal 1 arrival pick-up areas, P3 and P4, from 10 minutes to 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, an online petition on Change.org titled 'Roll back new pick-up rules at KIA Bengaluru' has received over 1,400 signatures. The petition, started by regular passenger Hareesh Amjuri, criticises the airport operator's decision to restrict kerbside pick-ups to select aggregator cabs while directing other taxis and non-private vehicles to the P4 parking area at Terminal 1.
