Australian authorities launched an emergency response on Sunday following multiple reports of gunfire at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach. Police immediately urged the public to avoid the area and advised anyone present to take shelter.
New South Wales (NSW) police confirmed that two people are in custody and described the situation as ongoing. “The police operation is ongoing and we continue to urge people to avoid the area,” the NSW police said in a post on X. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that multiple shots were fired, and several individuals were seen lying on the ground.

According to eyewitness reports, up to 50 gunshots were heard near Campbell Parade, with people on the ground seeking safety. Police shot one man, believed to be one of the shooters, while another was arrested, the Sydney Morning Herald said.

The NSW ambulance service confirmed that at least 10 people were injured in the incident. A spokeswoman said the service received calls around 6:45 p.m., reporting multiple people had been shot, and emergency teams were dispatched immediately to treat the victims at the scene.
Television networks Sky News and ABC aired footage showing individuals lying on the ground as emergency services responded to the scene. Authorities continue to manage the situation while maintaining warnings for the public to stay away from the area.
