A 27-year-old Army jawan from Gujarat was fatally stabbed aboard the Jammu Tawi–Sabarmati Express late Sunday night while the train was passing through Rajasthan’s Bikaner district.
The victim, identified as Jigar Kumar Chaudhary, had boarded the train at Firozpur in Punjab and was en route to Sabarmati when the incident occurred around 11 p.m. near Lunkaransar station.
According to officials, Chaudhary allegedly got into a dispute with a few train attendants over seating arrangements. The argument escalated, and one of the attendants reportedly attacked him with a knife, inflicting serious injuries to his chest and abdomen. As Chaudhary collapsed, the coach was left covered in blood.
Passengers immediately alerted authorities. Upon reaching Bikaner, the victim was rushed to Prince Bijay Singh Memorial (PBM) Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The Railway Police and Government Railway Police (GRP) have detained several contract attendants for questioning and recovered a suspected knife from the sleeper coach. “Statements of passengers are being recorded, and interrogation of the detained attendants is underway,” a GRP officer said.
The coach has been sealed for forensic examination, and passengers were shifted to another compartment. An FSL team is expected to inspect the train after it reaches Jodhpur.
Officials added that a post-mortem will be conducted once the victim’s family and Army representatives arrive in Bikaner.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact motive behind the attack.
