While there has been considerable political sparring over the revamp and rechristening of the nearly 20-year-old MGNREGA into the Viksit Bharat - G RaM G Act, several other schemes have underscored the Centre's fiscal discipline and social prudence.

From empowering rural India with schemes such as PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, the Centre also brought the spotlight on unsung heroes of world’s fastest growing economy – the gig workers. Here’s a look at major government schemes that were launched in 2025.

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: Approved on July 16, 2025, this six-year flagship programme focuses on 100 low-productivity districts (one per state/UT) with Rs 24,000 crore annual outlay. PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana converges 36 schemes across 11 ministries. The main aim of the programme is to help 1.7 crore farmers via facilities such as better irrigation, seeds, credit, storage, and allied sectors like dairy/fisheries for 20-30% yield hikes and doubled incomes.

PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY): The Union Ministry of Labour launched the scheme on August 1, 2025. With an outlay of Rs 99,446 crore, the scheme incentivises EPF contributions for new hires to create 3.5 crore jobs until July 2027. The formalisation of employment for youth and MSMEs through wage and social security subsidies is the main spirit of the scheme.

Gig Workers Scheme (e-Shram): Integrated via e-Shram portal after this year's Union Budget, this key government programme provides identity cards, PM-JAY health coverage, and social security to ~1 crore gig/platform workers. Aims to formalize informal labor with accident insurance and pension benefits.

Green India Digital Mission: A 2025 Environment Ministry initiative using AI for real-time forest monitoring, conservation, and biodiversity management. Enhances afforestation tracking and illegal logging prevention through satellite/GIS tech.

National Mission for Edible Oilseeds & Aatmanirbharta in Pulses: Budget 2025 agriculture scheme for self-reliance, with NAFED/NCCF procuring urad, tur, masoor at MSP to boost production and reduce imports. Supports oilseeds expansion via high-yield varieties and processing units.
