Aadhaar-based e-KYC transactions increased by 22 per cent month-on-month to 28.75 crore in November while the cumulative number of the transaction crossed 1,350 crore, an official statement said on Thursday.
The month of November also recorded an 11 per cent month-on-month rise in Aadhaar authenticated transactions to 195.39 crore in November, according to the statement.
"Aadhaar usage by residents is witnessing continued progress across the country. In November alone, 28.75 crore e-KYC transactions were executed using Aadhaar, a 22 per cent growth over the previous month. By the end of November 2022, the cumulative number of e-KYC transactions has gone up to 1,350.24 crore," the Ministry of Electronics and IT said in the statement.
Banking and non-banking financial services have been the key driver of the Aadhaar e-KYC service, where it is increasingly playing a crucial role in providing a transparent and improved customer experience.
An e-KYC transaction is executed only after the explicit consent of the Aadhaar holder, which eliminates physical paperwork and in-person verification requirement for KYC.
Telecom operators and fintech firms, among others, have seen ease in the onboarding of new customers through eKYC.
"The November month also recorded an 11 per cent increase in Aadhaar authentication transactions 195.39 crore compared to October data. A majority of these monthly transactions were carried out by using fingerprint biometric authentication, followed by demographic and OTP authentication. So far, cumulatively 8,621.19 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions have been executed by the end of November 2022," the statement said.
The Aadhaar-Enabled Payment System (AEPS) transactions cumulatively reached 1,591.92 crore by the end of November.
"More than 1,100 government schemes, programmes…in the country run by both Centre and states have been notified to use Aadhaar. The digital ID is helping various ministries and departments at the Centre and states in improving efficiency, transparency and delivery of welfare services to the targeted beneficiaries," the statement said.
