Delhi Police arrested eight people, including six from Tamil Nadu, for planning a major terrorist plot with the support of Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, and Bangladeshi terrorist organisations.
The crackdown followed intelligence reports regarding individuals sharing extremist content online. The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-based operation, where security personnel swooped in on multiple locations and apprehended the suspects.
During the probe, officials tracked down six suspects across various locations in Tamil Nadu: two were apprehended from Uthukuli, three from Palladam, and one from the Thirumuruganpoondi area. A Bangladeshi citizen is also among the arrested suspects while two people were arrested from West Bengal.
According to police, the suspects nabbed from Tamil Nadu have been identified as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal. According to Delhi Police, they were posting content on social media in support of Pakistan-based terrorist organisations.
Investigations revealed that the accused were allegedly using fraudulent Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities and maintain employment in Tiruppur garment industry. Delhi Police multiple mobile phones and SIM cards during the operation. Police suspect that these were being used to establish contacts and networks in various parts of the country.
“All accused held in Tamil Nadu are being brought to Delhi by train; the investigation is ongoing. These accused, suspected of aiding terrorists, conducted a recce of several cities. Posters of “Free Kashmir" were put up in Delhi," Delhi Police said in a statement.
