Shravan Singh was awarded the Bal Puraskar

Ten-year-old Shravan Singh from Punjab’s Ferozepur district was among the children honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on Friday for his service to Indian soldiers during Operation Sindoor.

Police and officials said Shravan helped Army personnel deployed near his village during the operation. The village is located close to the India-Pakistan border.

During the period of deployment, the boy regularly carried water, milk, lassi, tea and ice for the soldiers.

Speaking to ANI, Shravan said the idea came to him after the soldiers arrived in the area.

"When Operation Sindoor began against Pakistan, soldiers came to our village. I thought I should serve them. I used to take milk, tea, buttermilk, and ice for them daily," he said.

Shravan said he never expected to receive any award for what he did.

"I feel great to be awarded. I had never dreamt of it," he added.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha praised the child and shared a post on X highlighting his actions.

"A 10 years old, Shravan Singh from Chak Taran Wali village, Ferozepur, showed extraordinary courage and compassion. During Operation Sindoor, while danger loomed at high-risk border posts, Shravan selflessly served water, milk and tea to Indian Army personnel stationed at forward positions. Standing firm where many adults would hesitate. His bravery and sense of service remind us that patriotism is not defined by age, but by action," Chadha wrote.

Operation Sindoor was launched in May after a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in April that killed 26 people.

The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is awarded annually to children for achievements in areas such as bravery, social service, sports, science and technology, environment, and art and culture.

At the ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu also referred to Veer Bal Diwas, observed on December 26, and recalled that Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his four sons made the "supreme sacrifices" in defence of truth and justice.
