Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on May 12, responding to Home Minister Amit Shah's comments, launched a counteroffensive during her visit to Rae Bareli. She questioned the BJP's track record in the constituency, highlighting the developmental projects initiated by the Congress party.
Priyanka Gandhi speaking to mediapersons posed a direct question to Amit Shah, "What has BJP done for Rae Bareli?" She listed several initiatives undertaken by the Congress party, including the establishment of the Rail Coach Factory, AIIMS, NIFT, and the development of five national highways. The Congress general secretary lamented the closure of the AIIMS project, which the Congress-led government initiated.
"I want to ask Home Minister Amit Shah, what has BJP done for Raebareli? Congress gave Rail Coach Factory, AIIMS, NIFT, Ring Road, 5 national highways...We started AIIMS but they closed it...What did they do for Rae Bareli?" Priyanka Gandhi said.
Responding to Amit Shah's remarks about the absence of Gandhi family members from the constituency after election victories, Priyanka Gandhi countered, "Does he keep a list of my movements?"
She challenged Shah to acknowledge the frequency of her visits to the constituency. She said, "I have come here (Rae Bareli) many times. Does he keep a list of my movements?... He should note down how many times I have come here."
Addressing the crowd during his election rally in Rae Bareli, Shah criticised the Gandhi family for alleged lack of development initiatives in Raebareli, despite holding sway over the constituency for years. He urged voters to support BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh, promising to integrate Rae Bareli into PM Modi's development agenda.
Shah further questioned the Gandhi family's commitment to Rae Bareli's development, highlighting their purported absence from the constituency post-election victories. He underscored the perceived neglect by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra towards the constituency's welfare.
Rahul Gandhi is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Raebareli, a constituency held by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the past two decades. While Sonia Gandhi has recently transitioned to the Rajya Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has additionally been nominated from Wayanad in Kerala. The electorate of Raebareli is scheduled to cast their votes in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
