Swiggy, online food and grocery delivery platform, announced on Augsut 14 the launch of Swiggy UPI, an integrated payment solution designed to enhance the in-app payment experience for its customers. This new feature is powered by the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) unified payments interface (UPI) Plug-in solution and Juspay's HyperUPI Plugin, streamlining the payment process by allowing users to complete UPI transactions directly within the Swiggy app.
The online food delivery platform said integration of Swiggy UPI significantly reduces the payment process, cutting it down from five steps to just one, and eliminating the need to redirect users to third-party UPI apps. It further stated this enhancement is expected to reduce transaction time from over 15 seconds to just 5 seconds, providing a faster and more efficient user experience.
In July, Moneycontrol, citing its sources, reported that Swiggy had been testing the product with its employees and plans to gradually roll it out to all users in phases soon.
Swiggy's launch of its own UPI comes, more than a year after food and grocery delivery company Zomato launched its UPI service, Zomato UPI, in partnership with ICICI Bank.
Anurag Panganamamula, Swiggy’s Head of Revenue and Growth, expressed excitement about the launch of their new UPI feature, stating, “We are excited to introduce our UPI experience to our customers. This feature aligns with Swiggy’s mission to enable unparalleled convenience to consumers as UPI emerges as one of the most preferred payment methods. By massively simplifying the transaction process and reducing payment failures, we are confident this feature will significantly enhance the consumer experience on Swiggy.”
