Urban Company’s quick-help services vertical InstaHelp widened losses in the December quarter even as revenues rose sharply, as the company stepped up investments to build scale in 15-minute, on-demand home services.
InstaHelp reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of Rs 61 crore in Q3 FY26, compared with a loss of Rs 44 crore in the September quarter and Rs 10 crore in its launch quarter, Q1 FY26. Revenue from operations increased to Rs 6.8 crore, while net transaction value (NTV) rose to Rs 28 crore, up from Rs 10 crore in Q2 FY26 and Rs 1 crore at launch.
The push comes amid rising competition in the instant home-services market, with startups such as Snabbit, Pronto and Pync also expanding 15-minute offerings for cleaning, repairs and other domestic services in major urban centres.
Rapid scale, rising costs
Launched in Q1 FY26, InstaHelp has scaled quickly in terms of transactions, but profitability remains under pressure as Urban Company invests heavily in supply onboarding, incentives, operations and city-level expansion.
While revenue has scaled sharply since launch, adjusted EBITDA losses have widened faster than the topline as the company prioritises scale.
Drag on consolidated performance
Urban Company said InstaHelp is now the primary reason the group has slipped back into losses. In its shareholder letter, the company said, "The consolidated business had achieved Adjusted EBITDA breakeven during FY25. With stepped up investments in building InstaHelp, we expect the consolidated business to remain loss making for the next few quarters."
The company added that it expects to return to consolidated adjusted EBITDA breakeven by Q3 FY28, stating that this would happen "as profits from our India Consumer Services (Ex InstaHelp) and international markets offset the losses of InstaHelp."
Urban Company also said its India consumer services business and international operations in the UAE and Singapore are expected to continue expanding margins, while Native remains on a path to profitability.
Long-term view
The company reiterated its longer-term profitability ambitions, saying, "Our target is to reach an Adjusted EBITDA of ~Rs 1,000 crore for the consolidated business in FY31."
For now, InstaHelp’s numbers show a business scaling rapidly, but at a significant cost, with limited visibility on when losses will peak.
