Service professionals in the top 5 percent on Urban Company earn more than Rs 51,600 per month in net, in-hand income, the company said this week, citing data from its latest Partner Earnings Index.
According to the report, average monthly net earnings for all active service partners on the platform stood at Rs 28,322, up from Rs 26,489 in the year-ago period. Earnings rose sharply with performance, with the top 20 percent of service professionals earning Rs 42,418 per month and the top 10 percent earning Rs 47,471, after accounting for commissions, taxes, fees, travel and product-related costs.
Urban Company operates a marketplace model where service professionals—such as electricians, plumbers, beauticians and cleaning staff—work as independent partners, choosing their working hours and accepting jobs through the app rather than being directly employed by the company.
Urban Company said service partners spent an average of 91 hours per month on the platform, translating into net hourly earnings of around Rs 313, which it said was above statutory minimum wage benchmarks across several urban markets.
The company also benchmarked partner earnings against salaried roles, stating that while average partner earnings were comparable with entry-level IT and IT-enabled services salaries, top-performing service professionals earned materially more on a monthly basis.
Commenting on the data, Abhiraj Singh Bahl, chief executive officer of Urban Company Limited, said, “Sustained earnings growth is a very important indicator of a healthy partner ecosystem. Our focus remains on nurturing that ecosystem by strengthening demand, improving efficiency, and investing in the long-term career progression of service partners on our platform.”
The disclosure comes at a time when gig worker pay has come under sharper focus nationally. India’s latest Economic Survey showed that around 40 percent of gig workers earn less than Rs 15,000 a month, highlighting income volatility and wide disparities across app-based work, particularly in delivery and logistics segments.
Against that backdrop, Urban Company’s data points to a sharply skewed earnings curve, where a relatively small cohort of top-performing service professionals captures significantly higher payouts compared with the broader platform workforce.
Beyond earnings, Urban Company said all active service partners are covered under group life and accidental insurance, including life cover of up to Rs 10 lakh and disability cover of up to Rs 6 lakh. The company has also partnered with HDFC Pension to enable access to the National Pension System (NPS) for service professionals.
The Partner Earnings Index tracks net earnings for service professionals on Urban Company’s India consumer services platform after accounting for platform commissions and indirect costs borne by partners.
