Industry observers reckon that the downtick in numbers were largely driven by the preponement of purchases by prospective buyers in July as many of them were expecting the phaseout of Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024. While the scheme got further extended by two months (valid until September 31st 2024), E2W market leader Ola Electric’s total sales declined by 34 percent during August.

Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric clocked its lowest monthly retails this year, at 27,517 units in August, as per Vahan data. On a yearly basis, the Bengaluru-based EV startup's sales surged by nearly 47 percent from 18,750 units in August last year.

TVS Motor Co, which retained its second spot, sold 17,544 iQube e-scooters in August, down by 10.67 percent on July 2024’s 19,640 units. On a yearly basis, its sales were up by 13.29 percent from 15,485 units in August 2023

Bajaj Auto, which continued to remain third in the pecking order, retailed 16,706 units of Chetaks, down by 5.8 percent from 17,744. On a yearly basis though, the Rajiv Bajaj-led automaker's sales were up by a whopping 154 percent compared to 6,582 units in the year-ago period.

Hero MotoCorp-backed Ather Energy saw a minuscule increase from 10,181 units in July to 10,830 in August. On a YoY basis, sales increased by 42.25 percent  from 7,157 units in August 2023.

Pawan Munjal-led Hero MotoCorp, which came fifth in the E2W market, sold 4,742 units of Vida e-scooters in August. Despite declining by 6 percent from 5,060 units in July, it was up by 418 percent YoY from 915 units in August 2023.
