Kareena Kapoor knows how to keep things fun and sassy. Amid accusations that Prada took inspiration from Indian Kolhapuri chappals without acknowledging their origins, the actress made her pick clear in a holiday picture, showing her preference for the original footwear.
Currently vacationing in Greece, Kareena shared an Instagram story flaunting her traditional silver sandals and joking, “Sorry…not Prada…but my OG Kolhapuri.” She added a laughing emoji, fist emoji, and heart emoji—clearly showing her take on the controversy.
The Kolhapuri chappals made headlines after debuting in Prada’s Men’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection. Many criticised the brand for not crediting the artisans behind the 800-year-old Indian tradition of handcrafted footwear.

A public interest litigation (PIL) was even filed in the Bombay High Court, accusing Prada of cultural appropriation. The brand’s ‘Toe Ring Sandals’ were said to closely resemble traditional Kolhapuris made by Indian craftsmen.
Later, Prada acknowledged the inspiration behind the design and expressed interest in initiating dialogue with relevant trade and industry bodies.
In a statement to the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA), Prada’s representative Lorenzo Bertelli said: “We acknowledge that the sandals featured in the recent Prada Men’s 2025 Fashion Show are inspired by traditional Indian handcrafted footwear, with a centuries-old heritage. We deeply recognize the cultural significance of such Indian craftsmanship.”
Meanwhile, Kareena, who is holidaying with Saif and their kids, was recently spotted in Chinatown, a popular tourist destination for food and drinks in London. She’s not the only one enjoying summer in the city —Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, Avneet Kaur, and several other celebrities are also holidaying there.
