5 best Holi snacks

These are easily available, flavourful, and great to munch on while celebrating. Take a quick look at five savoury snacks you’d love to include in your Holi spread.

Savoury Gujiya

Sweet Gujiya is highly loved during festivals, but a savoury version is equally delightful, with its crisp shell and delicious filling. While the dough is prepared with maida, the filling comprises semolina, peanuts, spices, and herbs. The deep-fried snack is flaky, crunchy, and perfect for the festival.

Namak Para

Namak Para is a crispy, crunchy snack made with maida, ajwain, pepper, and ghee. Crispy golden in colour, it makes for a great addition to the Holi spread. Most people love to enjoy it with a hot cup of chai, especially after the celebrations. The good thing is that it has a long shelf life and can be enjoyed later as well.

Mathri

Very similar to namak para, mathri is a biscuit-like cracker made with maida and seasoned with spices like cumin, black pepper, and carom seeds (ajwain). It pairs well with chai and is perfect for conversations after the celebrations.

Pakoras

No celebration is complete without pakoras, a favourite Indian savoury, enjoyed with onions and chutneys. They are crispy, golden, and have the most delicious soft, fluffy filling. Some popular pakora fillings are moong dal, paneer, and potato. These are loved by everyone.

Kachori

Nothing compares to the taste of a delicious fried kachori, which is filled with different spices. The dough is mostly prepared with maida, while the filling is made from moong dal or crushed peas sautéed with spices and herbs. The crispy outer shell contains the softest filling inside and is widely enjoyed during the festival.
