She is 26 and her journey into the modeling world started by default, and not really by design. Her name is Bhavitha Mandava and while she has made headlines before for her unconventional journey and runway success, recently she has been named as Chanel's first Indian house ambassador.
The news was announced by Bhavitha on her Instagram page. She wrote, "CHANEL has long stood as a symbol of the modern working woman in motion, a spirit I deeply resonate with and am proud to embody. Matthieu's vision for the house brings a genuine sense of joy, thoughtfully balanced with reverence for its legacy. I'm truly honoured to be part of this new chapter at CHANEL and to join as an ambassador for a house that holds a special place in my heart.”
Bhavitha has become the first Indian model to hold the role. There's a lot to write home about Bhavitha's journey. A student pursuing her master's degree in Assistive Technology at New York University Tandon School of Engineering, her life changed when a modelling agent saw her waiting at a Brooklyn subway station.
Bhavitha was born in a Telugu family in Hyderabad and she studied architecture from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. After she was scouted at the subway station, two weeks later, she made her runway debut at Bottega Veneta's Spring/Summer 2025 show under creative director Matthieu Blazy. This is when she made headlines for being the first Indian model to open a show for Chanel in New York City.
She has appeared on the cover pages of many magazines and walks on runways for leading global brands.
