The music world is mourning the loss of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, whose sudden death in a scuba diving accident in Singapore has left fans devastated. Just a day before the tragedy, a video surfaced online showing the 52-year-old singer smiling and singing at a restaurant, seemingly unaware that it would be his final public appearance.

The clip, now widely shared on social media, captures Garg in high spirits. He is seen chatting casually with a friend, humming along to a song, and radiating the same charm that had made him one of India’s most beloved artists. For many admirers, the video feels haunting, as it freezes in time the last few moments of calm and joy before the shocking accident.

According to reports, Zubeen was in Singapore to attend the 4th North East India Festival as a cultural brand ambassador. He had even extended an invitation to his fans through a heartfelt social media post, encouraging them to attend the two-day celebration. In his message, he promised to perform some of his most popular Assamese, Hindi, and Bengali songs, expressing excitement about showcasing the cultural richness of India’s Northeast.

On September 19, tragedy struck when the singer fell into the sea while diving. Though he was quickly pulled out of the water and rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors were unable to revive him. Singapore authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Back in Assam, grief has spilled into the streets. Admirers of all ages have gathered outside Garg’s home with candles, flowers, and handwritten notes, paying tribute to a man who gave voice to their emotions through his music. Social media platforms have been flooded with posts remembering his iconic songs and recalling personal memories of how his music touched lives.

Zubeen's death is not just a personal loss to his fans but also to the Indian music industry, which he bridged across languages and genres. From Bollywood hits like “Ya Ali” to Assamese classics, his versatility made him an icon who could unite people through melody.

The final video from Singapore now serves as both a celebration of his spirit and a painful reminder of how fleeting life can be.
