The Women in Cinema Collective, a group of women professionals working in the Malayalam film industry, announced on Saturday, September 7, that they will soon propose a set of guidelines aimed at creating a more equitable and secure workplace within the industry.
The Women in Cinema Collective expressed their hope on Facebook that all industry members would unite in solidarity to adopt a "cinema code of conduct."
"A code that calls for universal adoption by all stakeholders to ensure that the Malayalam film industry becomes a fair, creative, professional and equal workplace for all," the FB post said.

In light of the recently published Justice K Hema Committee report, the Collective announced their intention to introduce a series of proposed recommendations aimed at transforming the Malayalam film industry into a more equitable and secure workplace for all.

The Women in Cinema Collective's decision to propose a set of recommendations for a more equitable and secure workplace within the Malayalam film industry comes weeks after the publication of the Justice K Hema Committee report. This report shed light on the alleged exploitation and ill-treatment of women in the Malayalam film industry. The committee was established by the Kerala government in response to the 2017 actress assault case and its findings revealed instances of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam cinema industry.
Following the allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation against several actors and directors, the state government announced the formation of a seven-member special investigation team on August 25th to investigate these claims.
