Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan is all set to celebrate his 18th wedding anniversary with Aishwarya Rai on April 20. The couple often make headlines over their separate appearances and relationship. However, Aishwarya was not Abhishek’s love of life since the beginning, as he was previously engaged to another Bollywood actress, Karisma Kapoor.

Abhishek and Karisma announced their engagement at Amitabh Bachchan’s 60th birthday celebration in 2002. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out between the duo, and they had to call off their engagement in January 2003.

The breakup left the industry professionals and the fans shocked. Abhishek and Karisma didn’t reveal the reason behind their separation, which left fuel for several theories on the internet.

Several reports have claimed at the time that Abhishek’s mother, Jaya Bachchan, wanted Karisma to quit acting following their marriage. However, Karisma’s mother, Babita Kapoor, was not on board with the condition, which allegedly led to their breakup.

However, other reports have claimed that Babita was hesitant to marry her daughter into the Bachchan family as they were facing financial difficulties at the time.

Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor called off their engagement on amicable terms and have since moved on in their respective lives.

Abhishek married Aishwarya Rai on April 20, 2007, in a beautiful traditional Hindu ceremony. The couple has since going strong and share a 13-year-old daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan.

Meanwhile, Karisma Kapoor married industrialist Sunjay Kapur on September 29, 2003, in a high-profile Sikh wedding ceremony at her ancestral home, Krishna Raj Bungalow, in Mumbai. However, Karisma’s marriage didn’t last, and the couple divorced in 2016. Karisma and Sunjay share a daughter, Samaira and a son, Kiaan.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have recently made news about facing a relationship turmoil. There were speculations that the couple had allegedly parted ways. Additionally, several rumours also suggested that Abhishek cheated on Aishwarya with co-star Nimrat Kaur.
