Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is gearing up for a significant moment in his cinematic journey as he prepares to unveil the trailer of his much-awaited film The Bengal Files in Calcutta.

The launch will be marked by a series of symbolic events — starting with seeking blessings at Kalighat, followed by paying homage at the historic Shahid Minar.

Part of Agnihotri’s acclaimed “truth-revealing” Files trilogy, the film follows the success of The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. This third chapter dives deep into one of Bengal’s darkest historical chapters — the events surrounding Direct Action Day and the 1946 Calcutta killings. The narrative promises to explore the political, communal, and human dimensions of the tragedy, shedding light on stories often left untold.

The anticipation has been high ever since the first teaser dropped in June, leaving audiences stunned with its haunting visuals — including a burning idol of Goddess Durga, blood-soaked streets, and a foreboding warning from a Kashmiri Pandit that “Bengal is becoming another Kashmir.” The teaser’s chilling imagery has already sparked conversations across social media and among history enthusiasts.

The upcoming trailer launch in Calcutta is expected to be more than just a film event — it’s positioned as a cultural and historical reminder. Agnihotri’s visit to Kalighat is seen as a spiritual beginning, while his stop at Shahid Minar symbolizes paying tribute to the sacrifices of the past.

The cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar — all bringing weight and gravitas to the film’s intense subject.

The film is set to release in theatres on September 5, 2025, and with the trailer launch just around the corner, it’s clear that The Bengal Files is poised to make a strong impact both on screen and in public discourse.
