Vikrant Massey receives Best Actor National award at 71st National Awards for 12th Fail

He shares the National Award for Best Actor with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who received the award for the film Jawan.

Season actor Vikrant Massey received the National Award for Best Actor at the 71st National Film Awards, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He was presented the prestigious award by Honourable President Droupadi Murmu.

The honour was presented to him for his powerful and nuanced performance in the film 12th Fail.

He shares the National Award for Best Actor with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who received the award for the film Jawan.

Dressed in an elegant white Bandhgala suit, Vikrant received the award with humility and gratitude.

Adding more feathers to their cap, the film 12th Fail also bagged the Best Film award. Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra spoke about the big win at the National Award red carpet on Tuesday and said, "It's a personal win for me also. I remember, when I came here the first time, when I had come, LK Advani ji was the I&B minister. So, I got 4,000 rupees for the Murder at Monkey Hill. 1977 — that was my first award. So, it's been… it's my life. This is it. See, from there to here, it’s my life, it’s 12th FAIL!

Vikrant Massey and Shah Rukh Khan received a prize money of Rs 1 Lakh each, along with the Svarn Kamal. Usually, the prize money is Rs 2 Lakh but since the award is being shared by two actors, the prize money will also be equally divided among the two of them.

This honour marks a turning point in Vikrant's career, which began in television before moving smoothly into film, where he gradually established a reputation for himself by choosing projects that were both thought-provoking and packed with content.

Vikrant's versatile performances over the years in films like A Death in the Gunj,
Chhapaak and 12th Fail have time and again won the hearts of the audience.
