Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt's starrer The Devil Wears Prada 2 has recently kicked off production, and the makers have increased the excitement of the fans with the new announcement. A series of cast members have joined the highly anticipated sequel.
According to Deadline, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet have joined the star-studded cast. However, Netflix hit series Bridgerton fame actress, Simone Ashley, has also joined the most-awaited sequel.
Other new additions to the cast are Helen J. Shen, Conrad Ricamora and comedian Caleb Hearon. However, the latest reports have also suggested that some of the cast members from the OG film will also return to the sequel.
Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman are set to reprise their roles as Lily, Anne Hathaway's handbag-enthusiast best friend, and Irv Ravitz, chairman of Elias-Clark, the parent company of Runway, in the upcoming sequel.
Stanley Tucci, who played the fashion icon Nigel, is also set to return to the upcoming sequel. Kenneth Branagh, who is known for his role in Death On The Nile, will join the original cast of the 2006 film. He will portray the husband of Miranda Presley, played by Meryl Streep, the demanding editor-in-chief of Runway magazine.
The sequel will revolve around Miranda Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. Miranda clashes with Blunt's character, a former assistant turned powerful executive of a luxury brand that Priestley needs for advertising.
However, it's currently unclear how Anne Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, will fit into the story since she left Runway at the end of the first film to work at a newspaper. The original director, David Frankel, writer Aline Brosh McKenna, as well as the producers Wendy Finerman and Karen Rosenfelt, are all returning for the sequel. The first part was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2004 novel, The Devil Wears Prada.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to hit the theatres on May 1, 2026.
