The animated Super Mario Bros. 2 officially gets a title. The much-awaited sequel is titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
As previously revealed, returning actors Mario (Chris Pratt), Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Luigi (Charlie Day), Bowser (Jack Black), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), and Kamek (Kevin Michael Richardson) will be among the voice cast for the upcoming instalment.
The other voice cast of Nintendo and Illumination’s upcoming film will also be revealed soon. After directing the first Super Mario Bros. movie, which was released in 2023, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are set to return to the director’s chair for the sequel.
Universal Pictures' second tentpole from the Super Mario Bros. universe will release in the United States and other international markets on April 3, 2026. In Japan, the animated film will be released on April 24, 2026, with some other countries following suit that same month.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie brought in over $1.3 billion worldwide, and now the makers have high expectations with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Mario (Chris Pratt) and his younger brother Luigi (Charlie Day) were plumbers in Brooklyn before being transported to the Mushroom Kingdom by a mysterious pipe in the original Super Mario Bros. movie. The remaining cast members include Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo and Chris Meledandri of Illumination are producing both the 2023 movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Storyboarding scenes and creating set designs for new settings are already underway with co-directors Horvath and Jelenic and their team of animators.
The upcoming sequel will be co-produced by Universal Pictures and Nintendo. Returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel wrote the screenplay. Brian Tyler will return to write the music.
