Sonu Sood gives an emotional video message as Punjab fights floods

As Punjab goes under the impact of one of its worst floods in recent times, actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood has once again stepped forward and not just with action, but with an emotional video message where he talks about the pain, resilience, and unity of the Punjabi spirit. He also urged everyone to stand with Punjab in these tough times.

In a recent emotional statement, Sood shed light on the grave scale of devastation the floods have caused. "Over 1,400 villages have been affected. Around three lakh people have been displaced, and crops on nearly four lakh acres of land have been destroyed,” he shared. "Thousands of livestock—buffaloes, cows—that were the only means of livelihood for many, have also perished.”

Despite the staggering losses, what has moved Sood most is the unwavering spirit of the people of Punjab. "When an entire region is struggling, the natural question is: Who will help? And yet, even in the midst of this crisis, our Punjabi brothers and sisters are standing by one another—building boats, finding ways to rescue and support each other. That is the spirit of Punjab," he said.

But Sonu Sood, who was born and raised in Punjab, knows the road ahead will not be easy. “This courage and unity will only succeed if we stand with them too,” he urged.

He spoke of the ongoing efforts to reach flood-hit areas. "We go to the villages every day. On most days, we can’t cover more than two to three villages, because every home needs time, every story needs to be heard. Still, our mission is to reach every household—whether it takes two months or six."

Sood warned that the real struggle will begin when the floodwaters start receding. “That’s when people will have to face reality—loans taken for crops that no longer exist, children’s education interrupted, homes destroyed.”

In a powerful appeal to authorities, Sonu said, “I fold my hands and request all governments—farmers who took loans for crops that are now gone, their debts should be waived. They cannot be left to suffer.”

He also reminded everyone of the long and painstaking process of rebuilding. “In a house, it takes months—sometimes years—to make just one table and chair. Now we have to rebuild entire beds, tables, roofs—everything, from scratch.”

With winter approaching, his concern deepens. “Punjab ki sardi... when there is no roof over your head, imagine how brutal that will be.”

Closing his message with both pride and hope, Sood saluted the spirit of Punjabis: “I bow to everyone who is still on the ground, helping. Don’t lose courage. Punjab has always stood up for others, and this time too, we will set an example. When hardship comes, we’ll fight back—the way Punjab always has.”
