The highly anticipated sequel to Akshay Kumar's 2008 rom-com Singh is Kinng is officially in the works. Filmmaker Shailendra Singh revealed in a recent interview that production for the sequel will begin in 2025.
Ranveer Singh and Diljit Dosanjh are reportedly the top choices for the lead role, generating excitement among fans.
In a recent interview with Mid-Day, filmmaker Shailendra Singh shared that he has been developing the sequel to Singh Is Kinng for the past seven years. Singh mentioned that after years of discussions with Vipul and Akshay Kumar, he finally secured the title three years ago. He revealed plans to begin production in October 2025, aiming for a 2026 release.
Shailendra is gearing up to expand the Singh Is franchise, this time moving forward without Akshay Kumar.
Shailendra Singh mentioned that Ranveer Singh is his first choice for the lead role in Singh Is Kinng 2 and has already been approached for the part. However, if things don't work out with Ranveer, Singh plans to reach out to Diljit Dosanjh as a potential alternative. “The hero won’t be called Happy Singh. We’ll create a new character. My first choice is Ranveer Singh," he said.
Interestingly, Ranveer Singh had been considered for the Singh Is Kinng sequel back in 2017, but the project didn’t materialize at the time. Shailendra Singh also shared his vision for the sequel, expressing a strong preference for either Priyadarshan or Anees Bazmee to helm the film. Bazmee, notably, directed the original Singh Is Kinng.
Singh Is Kinng revolves around the story of Happy, known for his mischievous antics, is tasked with bringing Lakhan back to reunite with his ailing father. However, upon reaching Australia, Happy finds himself mistaken for Lakhan and unexpectedly becomes the leader of the local underworld. In this film, Akshay Kumar donned the look of a Sardar. The movie boasted an ensemble cast featuring Katrina Kaif, Om Puri, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Javed Jaffrey, Sonu Sood, and Sudhanshu Pandey.
