Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore's film Gulmohar had a triumphant run at the 70th National Film Awards, securing three prestigious honors: Best Film (Hindi), Best Dialogues, and a Special Mention for actor Manoj Bajpayee.
The awards ceremony, held on Tuesday (October 8), saw President Droupadi Murmu present the accolades to the winners, marking a proud moment for the Gulmohar team.
In a heartfelt media interaction, Sharmila Tagore expressed her joy and reflected on the hard work that went into the making of Gulmohar. "We worked so hard for Gulmohar, and we are very happy. The film won Best Dialogues and Best Film, which is a testament to our collective effort. The entire function was orchestrated so well, and everyone arrived on time, making it a proud moment for me. I'm leaving with wonderful memories," she shared.
She also took a moment to praise Mithun Chakraborty, who was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the event. Tagore lauded his heartfelt speech, saying, "Mithun Chakraborty spoke so well. His words were straight from the heart and deeply moving. His lived experiences and sincerity inspired me. He truly made the show."
Actor Manoj Bajpayee earned a Special Mention for his performance in Gulmohar. This win marks his fourth National Film Award, and he emphasized the significance of Gulmohar’s success.
Prior to this, Bajpayee won the Best Actor award for Bhonsle (2021), Best Supporting Actor for Satya (1999), and a Special Jury Award for Pinjar (2004).

Director Rahul V. Chittella was equally thrilled by the recognition. He expressed his excitement about receiving the award from the Honorable President. "It’s a beautiful culmination of our journey together. Winning Best Hindi Film and Best Dialogues is a special honor, and I’m particularly proud that Manoj Bajpayee won a Special Mention for this beloved film," he said.
Gulmohar, directed by Chittella, tells the story of the multi-generational Batra family as they prepare to leave their 34-year-old family home, leading to a rediscovery of family bonds. The film also stars Simran and Suraj Sharma.
