SEVENTEEN, the charismatic K-pop boy group renowned for their dynamic music and meaningful narratives, has recently added another remarkable achievement to their repertoire. On June 11, 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) appointed SEVENTEEN as its new Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, marking them as the first K-pop act to receive this honour.
UNESCO's decision to appoint SEVENTEEN as Goodwill Ambassador for Youth highlights the group's significant influence on young people worldwide. Known for their powerful and inspirational music, SEVENTEEN has consistently portrayed themes of growth and resilience, resonating deeply with the younger generation. Their role as Goodwill Ambassadors will involve leading initiatives aimed at addressing key issues faced by youth globally, fostering a brighter future through collaboration and advocacy.
Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, expressed optimism about the partnership, citing past successful collaborations with SEVENTEEN. She believes that their involvement will further strengthen efforts to support and inspire young people around the world.
The official appointment ceremony will take place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on June 26, 2024. During the event, SEVENTEEN will deliver an acceptance speech and meet with Director-General Azoulay to discuss future steps and collaborative activities.
SEVENTEEN's partnership with UNESCO is not a first. They previously joined forces for the Going Together campaign, co-launched by PLEDIS Entertainment, emphasising the importance of education. Their involvement in the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris in November 2023 further solidified their influence, with young people from over 170 countries participating in the event.
SEVENTEEN, comprising 13 members—S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino—continues to make waves in the music industry. Their highly anticipated anthology album, 17 IS RIGHT HERE, was released on April 29, 2024, featuring the title track MAESTRO.
In addition to the group's collective achievements, members Jeonghan and Wonwoo are set to debut as a sub-unit with their album THIS MAN, scheduled for release on June 17. This sub-unit project adds another layer to SEVENTEEN’s diverse musical portfolio.
